Where do the funds come from that allow YNPN Atlanta to offer this program?
YNPN Atlanta receives its revenues through membership dues, event fees, and charitable contributions. All revenues are utilized to advance the mission of YNPN Atlanta, which is to advance the careers of young professionals in the Metro Atlanta area through networking and professional opportunities. As the organization grows, YNPN Atlanta has earmarked a portion of our net proceeds for the Opportunity Grant Program which provides another way for young professionals to access quality networking and professional development.
Who serves on the Opportunity Grant Selection Committee?
The selection committee is composed of the members of YNPN Atlanta’s Leadership Team (board of directors and various committee members).
When will I know if my application was selected for funding?
The selection committee will generally announce the recipient for the current cycle within 30 days of the application deadline.
How will you announce the results?
Opportunity Grant recipients will be announced via the YNPN Atlanta website, e-newsletter, and social media channels. Results may also be covered by local media sources. Grant recipients will be required to sign a waiver of permission as well as a professional bio and headshot.
What are the eligibility requirements?
Eligible applicants must be a current YNPN Atlanta member. The YNPN Atlanta Board of Directors and members of the Opportunity Grant Selection Committee are not eligible to apply.
How often will this grant be offered?
Budget permitting, YNPN Atlanta intends to offer this grant on a bi-annual basis. Future cycles will be announced on the YNPN Atlanta website, e-newsletter, and social media channels.
How many times per cycle can I apply?
Only one application per person per cycle will be considered.
Can I apply every cycle? What if I’ve been a recipient of this grant in the past?
Eligible applicants may apply as many times as desired. Past recipients are also welcome to apply, though the funding limit per person per calendar year is $500. If you received an Opportunity Grant award that was less than $500, you may still apply for another funding cycle within the same calendar year. However, the amount of funding you may request must be limited to the difference between your previous award and $500. The Opportunity Grant Selection Committee tends to give preference to applicants who have not yet received funding.
Can my prior supervisor serve as a reference if I recently changed jobs?
Absolutely! Please make a note regarding your particular circumstances in the space provided on your application. You can also request that your reference make a similar note on their form.
Will there be multiple awards per grant cycle?
The number of awards given in each cycle will be determined based on the available funding in the current cycle and the number of qualified applications. It is possible that multiple awards will be given in a cycle, and it is also possible that only one award will be given in a cycle.
How will funding be received by those who are awarded an Opportunity Grant?
The Opportunity Grant program was designed to be as flexible as possible in order to cover a wide variety of funding requests and circumstances. The Opportunity Grant Selection Committee will work personally with each award recipient to determine the best method of financial transaction.
What if my detailed, line-item budget only requires one line?
The Opportunity Grant program was designed to be as flexible as possible in order to cover a wide variety of funding requests and circumstances. Some requests may be extremely simple (i.e., one amount for a class registration fee) while others may be more complex (i.e., conference attendance which requires a registration fee, plane fare, and accommodations). Create a budget that works for your specific opportunity, however simple or complex. When in doubt, list it as a new line item. Providing more information is preferable.
Your budget should show line items that account for the amount requested from YNPN Atlanta, any external funding (employer, etc.), and any remainder. Also, any local travel reimbursement requests should be measurable/quantifiable (ex: include mileage measurements or public transit information (MARTA stops, bus routes taken, etc.)
Can I seek funding for an opportunity that won’t occur for a long time (i.e., six months or more after the application due date)?
Some things, such as airplane fare or hotel rooms, must be booked months before their actual use. In cases like this, we expect that you may need to apply for funding further in advance in order to secure the best rate or a particular set of dates. The Opportunity Grant Selection Committee will work personally with each award recipient to determine the best plan for grant fulfilment.
Can I get feedback on my application for the future?
In addition to providing a great funding opportunity, YNPN Atlanta seeks to provide a learning and growth experience for its members. With this in mind, the Opportunity Grant Selection Committee will do its best to provide constructive feedback after the award recipients have been announced to any applicants who request feedback.
Is there any advantage to submitting my application early?
The Opportunity Grant Selection Committee will not begin deliberations until the current application deadline has passed. However, by submitting early you do allow time for the selection committee to address any hiccups with insufficient information on your detailed, line-item budget or missing reference forms.
How will the Opportunity Grant Selection Committee prioritize applications?
The Opportunity Grant Selection Committee is charged with distributing grant funds to best fulfill the YNPN Atlanta mission of advancing the careers of young professionals in the Metro Atlanta area through networking and professional opportunities. To provide maximum benefit to our members, each application will be evaluated on the severity of the need as stated by the Applicant and the timeline involved, and preference will be given for those who have not received funding in the past.

Does the grant have a match requirement?
No. YNPN Atlanta created the Opportunity Grant Program to best assist its members with their professional development goals. Many YNPN Atlanta members are new to their careers or may be looking for work. To make the grant as financially accessible as possible, there is no personal match requirement.
